Passwords Passwords

Image
Humans never had more secrets throughout their evolution than they are having now and Passwords/PINs are the reasons.  From internet banking to phone password, we are carrying these secrets with us. Even one password theft can be detrimental.  There used to be the time when they said, never write down your passwords, memorize them and destroy. This was possible when there used to be hardly couple of passwords, your computer login and your email login. Now that everyone on an average has about 30-40 passwords to be remembered and used, it is no more possible to follow that safety tip. And not just passwords but variety of user names too. I am very sure that everyone of us now keep the backup of passwords in one form or other. Just that you should not keep the passwords backed up on your laptop, phone or other digital device. There are two risks in doing so: Hacker Attack: Any device that connects to internet has probability of hacking attack, howsoever precautionary measures you tak

Challenges of Online Education and Possible Solutions

Image
In Bharat, the culture is pretty lively, social. People enjoy the human connection and meeting each other, the concept of online training and teaching itself is an alien one. The culture in western countries and Europe is far more suitable for this. Hence challenges in online teaching for us starts right from cultural shift. Although some sectors like the IT industry are now very well adapted to online meetings and training, other sectors are still not exposed to technical advancements in communication. Thanks to the social media boom in the last 15 years, a significant population in Bharat can already communicate using such mediums and know how to operate devices like smartphones. Let's now dive a little deeper and try to understand other challenges.  Infrastructure penetration First and foremost, you have to come out of the notion that students exist only in cities and urban areas. Because most of the colleges are located in urban areas, for traditional education we can safely ma

Battle Of the Words: Leader Takes On Boss

Image
Let me open the write-up admitting that I mostly have had great bosses in my career. And I consider myself lucky for that. Colloquially, how would one ask someone who's your superior at job? Do we first throw a probe saying, "Hey, do you have a boss at job or a leader?" And then based on answer frame the actual question? No. We simply ask, "Who's your boss?" We know that content creation is bread and butter for many people, and hence while reading on internet, one should be conscious and careful. Be extra careful with decorative similes and metaphors which are often coated with exaggeration to play with reader's psychology. Roughly every one out of ten people using internet write something, someday and join the modern authors fraternity.  I appreciate the volume of talent. It's Massive!!! But inevitably it has resulted in a dense smog of pseudo-content spread over internet. Some popular trends among these authors are: Playing with w

Indian IT Industry - A Long Due Course Correction

Image
No personal mails No personal phone calls No personal work No going out of premises in office hours (i. e. Lock-In) I don’t know where this is going to lead the blue eyed IT industry. Definitely not to the solution of the problems they are trying to address like decreased productivity and quality. The root of these problems lies in how industry culture is developed. Over 25 years, we have messed up industry culture falling prey to many factors. We blindfolded ourselves from reality and foresightedness in the hoopla of growth and increasing profit margins. We are reaping the results of our shortsightedness. We spoilt our employees with hefty salaries which went on becoming literally filthy as industry flourished and reached to the peak. Companies could easily afford it because it was dollar\pound to rupee conversion. People kept doing same or less amount of work while they kept getting grand increments and bonuses. We lacked the foresight of where this will take us.
We The Humans And Our Tools

Think Differently

Image
Think Differently! It is a very common advise we keep hearing around us. What does it mean? Just two words, simple meaning but what does that indeed means. Teacher tells the class, "Think differently". Manager tells the team, "Think differently". Mentor tells mentees, "Think differently". Among the audience, most do agree that they need to think differently but still cannot fathom what it means. As many people, as many brains, as many personalities. We look different, we dress differently, we eat different. Likewise shouldn't thinking differently be but natural? Doesn't appear so, right? So then are we saying most of us think alike? The answer is - NO . Let's take an example. A class is appearing for logical reasoning test with multiple choice(A, B, C & D) question. On every question, the class gets divided into 4 groups(assuming questions are good) based on what option they chose as answer. And with every que
